Western Michigan Brass Quintet

October 5, 2026

7:00 pm
First Congregational Church
The Western Michigan Brass Quintet is a re-envisioned version of the Western Brass Quintet, which performed cutting-edge, virtuosic repertoire for national and international audiences across the world for over six decades. These five performers (Scott Thornburg and Robert White, trumpets; Lin Foulk Baird, horn; Daniel Mattson, trombone; and Jacob Cameron) currently hold positions with the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo Symphonies and Western Michigan University and they played together in the Western Brass Quintet from 2014-20. During that time, the ensemble performed as featured artists at the University of Wisconsin–Madison Celebrate Brass! Festival, at Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago, IL, and as featured artists with the Kalamazoo Concert Band, the Byron Center High School Band, and at the Kalamazoo New Year’s Fest. The ensemble performed full recitals at several universities throughout Illinois, Ohio, and Arizona and they recorded a full-length album for Summit Records called Better Angels. They are thrilled to reunite for this special Monday Musical Club performance.
